Japan opens bookings for Kumamoto quake recovery travel discounts

TOKYO: Japan began accepting reservations Tuesday (Sept 15) for discounted travel and hotel stays in Kumamoto and Nagasaki prefectures under a campaign aimed at supporting Kyushu's tourism industry following a major earthquake in July, Kyodo News reported.

The campaign covers all seven prefectures in Kyushu, with discounts of 60 per cent offered in Kumamoto and Kagoshima, where many hotel bookings were cancelled after the earthquake, and 50 per cent elsewhere.

The five other prefectures, excluding Kumamoto and Nagasaki, will begin taking reservations later. - Bernama-Kyodo
