BANGKOK: India has announced that Thai nationals will be eligible for a 30-day double-entry e-Tourist visa free of charge, under an arrangement that will remain in effect until December 31, 2027, or until further notice.
The Embassy of India in Bangkok announced the measure in a press release dated Friday (September 11, 2026).
Under the arrangement, Thai passport holders can apply online for a 30-day e-Tourist visa allowing two entries into India without paying a visa fee.
Travellers must still apply through the Indian government’s official e-Visa portal and obtain an e-Tourist visa before travelling. The measure therefore represents a visa-fee waiver, not visa-free entry.
The embassy said: “The Government of India will grant a 30-day e-Tourist visa with double entry on a gratis basis to Thai nationals. This arrangement will remain in force till 31 December 2027 or till further orders.”
It added that Thai nationals applying under the scheme would not be charged any visa fee.
Around 130,000 Thai tourists visited India in 2025
The measure comes as tourism links between Thailand and India continue to expand.
According to the Indian Embassy in Bangkok, around 130,000 Thai tourists visited India in 2025, down about 7% year on year.
Official Indian tourism data show that Thailand was among India’s 15 largest sources of foreign tourists in 2024, when 140,489 Thai nationals travelled to India, accounting for 1.41% of the country’s foreign tourist arrivals. That was up from 116,060 in 2023.
Air links between the two countries have also expanded. The Indian Embassy said Thailand was directly connected with more than 15 Indian cities, with more than 500 flights a week depending on seasonal schedules.
The new fee waiver is expected to make travel to India more accessible for Thai visitors while supporting tourism and people-to-people links between the two countries. - Nation/ANN
