YANGON: A total of 97 Myanmar nationals who had completed their prison sentences in Thailand have been repatriated to Kawthaung, Myanmar.
The Myanmar migrant workers arrived in Kawthaung from Ranong, Thailand, on Sept 10. Officials welcomed them, conducted the necessary checks, and made arrangements for them to return to their respective hometowns.
The group comprised 80 men and 17 women who had served sentences in 14 provinces in southern Thailand.
Before being repatriated, they were temporarily detained at the Immigration Detention Centre in Ranong. They were escorted by a Myanmar Labour Attaché and transported by sea to Kawthaung.
Upon arrival, the returnees underwent health screenings and checks against immigration blacklist records.
Authorities also screened them for possible human trafficking cases, trafficking victims, and the presence of foreign nationals among the group before arranging their onward travel to their respective areas of residence. - Eleven Media/ANN
