Singer Zaki Yamani is now releasing his latest single, titled “Akur”. The song was officially released on Sept 4, alongside its launch event and press conference held in Kuala Lumpur.
The song, released by Sony Music Entertainment Malaysia in collaboration with A Cap Records, features a distinctive style of delivery.
For Zaki, the son of Malaysian acting and singing legend, the biggest challenge in delivering “Akur” was finding the right balance between conveying sadness while ensuring that every emotion expressed remained sincere and authentic.
“It was definitely challenging to convey the emotions in ‘Akur’ because I didn’t want to force the sadness. I tried to deliver it as honestly as possible. For me, when we are truly heartbroken, sometimes we don’t need to show our sadness too much. There is a stronger emotion in holding it in and trying to accept it calmly,” said Zaki.
One of the most poignant lines in the song is “apa kurang ku di mata mu?”, a simple question that carries a deeply emotional weight.

For Zaki, the line actually conceals a more personal question: “Am I still not enough for you?”
“I think many people have been in a situation where we have tried our best in a relationship, but in the end, we are still not the person chosen. That is when we start questioning what we may be lacking.
“That is why, for me, ‘Akur’ is more about letting go—not because we no longer love someone, but because we realise that we are no longer the person they choose. At some point, we have to learn to accept it, even though it is not the ending we wanted,” he explained.
For Sony Music Entertainment Malaysia, “Akur” is not merely a new single, but also an integral part of Zaki’s journey in shaping his identity and musical maturity as an artist.
Kenny Ong, Managing Director of Sony Music Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam & Southeast Asia Special Projects, said: “At Sony Music, we believe that an artist’s growth is not measured solely by a song or a single achievement, but by their courage to continue evolving, exploring different directions and building their own musical identity.
"We see great potential in Zaki, and "Akur" represents another important step in that journey. We hope this work will allow more listeners to discover Zaki not just as a young singer, but as an artist with his own voice, character and musical journey.”
Also playing a part in this creative journey is A Cap Records, which sees “Akur” as a song that resonates closely with the experiences and emotions of its listeners.
Kimmy Khir, Founder of A Cap Records said: "'Akur’ is not just a song, but a journey. A Cap serves as a bridge connecting Zaki Yamani with the knowledge, experience and network of Sony Music Malaysia.
“Having witnessed his passion and courage in creating music, we AKUR that Zaki was truly born for this. It’s your time to fly high...”
Ultimately, “Akur” is not a song that asks someone to forget. Nor does it promise that the pain will disappear overnight.
Instead, it is a companion to those who are learning to accept that some people are only meant to pass through our lives, some memories will remain, and some questions may never find their answers.
Because sometimes, love does not end when the feelings fade. It ends when we finally realise that it is time to step away.
Zaki Yamani’s latest single, “Akur”, is now available on all major digital streaming platforms.
