MPCA Awards 2026 celebrate excellence and the shaping of Malaysia’s next chapter in private capital ecosystem

The Malaysia Private Capital Association (MPCA) has announced the recipients of the MPCA Awards 2026, recognising outstanding achievements and contributions across Malaysia’s private capital ecosystem.

Presented in conjunction with the Malaysia Private Capital Forum 2026, held under the theme “Malaysia Forward: Rewiring Capital Flows in an Ascending World,” the awards celebrate organisations that are helping strengthen Malaysia’s ability to attract, deploy, grow and ultimately recycle private capital.

The Forum brought together investors, fund managers, founders, corporates, policymakers and ecosystem partners to examine how Malaysia can compete for increasingly selective global capital, strengthen capital formation, create credible exit pathways and position itself as a gateway to ASEAN private markets.

"The MPCA Awards 2026 come at an important time for the private capital industry," said Ng Sai Kit, the Chairman of MPCA, in his opening address at the Forum.

The MPCA Chairman highlighted that global capital remains available but has become increasingly concentrated, selective and demanding. For Malaysia, the challenge is therefore not simply to generate more deals, but to build a stronger ecosystem across the entire investment cycle.

That cycle — described as the capital recycling flywheel — connects LP capital, professional managers, investments, value creation, exits, distributions and reinvestment.

"The Awards reflect this same principle by recognising not only investment performance, but also value creation, successful exits, innovation, responsible investment and ecosystem contribution," he said.

“Capital has not disappeared. It has become more concentrated, more selective and more demanding. Malaysia’s next chapter cannot simply be about creating more funds or generating more deals. It must be about building a stronger capital base, creating credible exits, returning capital to investors, and giving LPs the confidence to invest again.”

The Winners

Six recipients achieved the award-winning threshold and were recognised as MPCA Awards 2026 Winners:

* Public-Private Strategic Capital Catalyst Award: PNSB Innovation Ventures

* Ecosystem Catalyst of the Year: SemiconStart Malaysia – MTDC and Silicon Catalyst UK Ltd

* Firm of the Year: Gobi Partners

* Exit of the Year (IPO): SkyeChip Berhad

* Exit of the Year (Small): Equitic Asset Sdn Bhd

* Outstanding Corporate VC of the Year: Sunway iLabs

Collectively, the winners demonstrate different components of a healthy private capital ecosystem — from professional investment management and corporate venture capital to technology ecosystem development, public-private collaboration and successful exits.

These recognitions reinforce MPCA’s broader focus on connecting capital with credible managers and opportunities while developing the standards, talent and institutional capability needed for the industry to mature.

MPCA also recognised four strong submissions with Merit:

* HSS Holding Berhad — Merit, Exit of the Year (Mid)

* UBCT Industrial Solution — Merit, Outstanding Investee of the Year

* Monarch MC5 Pillars Venture PLT — Merit, Private Credit Firm of the Year

* Dura Technology Sdn Bhd — Merit, Responsible Investment of the Year

The Merit recognition acknowledges strong submissions that did not meet the final winning threshold while highlighting meaningful contributions across different segments of the private capital ecosystem.

The MPCA Awards 2026 were assessed using an evidence-based framework that looks beyond headline transaction size or financial performance.

The judging framework considers factors including investment and fund performance, portfolio value creation, LP stewardship, ecosystem contribution, governance and responsible investment. Exit categories also consider realised return quality, operational value creation, Malaysian and strategic impact, execution and responsible ownership.

This reflects MPCA’s view that the strength of private capital should ultimately be measured by what capital enables — stronger businesses, innovation, regional expansion, successful exits and the confidence to reinvest.

For Malaysia, this is increasingly important as the country seeks to become an investable base, operating bridge and source of companies capable of scaling across ASEAN, rather than competing transaction-for-transaction with larger regional markets.

Looking ahead, MPCA has identified the LP Agenda as an important next chapter, with deeper engagement planned with institutional investors including pension funds, insurers, GLICs, corporates and other allocators, as well as family offices, family capital and international investors.

The objective is to strengthen the foundations for repeat capital allocation into Malaysian private markets by addressing the factors that matter to investors — including governance, track record, liquidity, reporting, manager selection and risk-return.

As the MPCA Chairman concluded at the Forum: “In many ways, the work of the past decade has been about building Malaysia’s GP ecosystem. I believe the work ahead must increasingly be about building Malaysia’s capital ecosystem.”

The MPCA Awards 2026 celebrate those already contributing to that transition — recognising excellence not only in deploying capital, but in creating value, enabling exits, supporting innovation and strengthening the ecosystem around it.

MPCA congratulates all winners and Merit recipients, and extends its appreciation to all nominees, judges, members, partners and stakeholders who continue to contribute to the development of Malaysia’s private capital industry.
