SRINAGAR: An IndiGo aircraft from Navi Mumbai hit a docking guidance pole while being parked at Srinagar airport on Friday morning, but all passengers and crew escaped unhurt.
Flight 6E 225 was being positioned at Bay No. 6 when the aircraft came into contact with the pole supporting the Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS). The incident occurred at around 9.02am, according to airport authorities.
The aircraft involved carries the registration VT-NOG. Public flight-tracking information identifies VT-NOG as an Airbus A321-251NX operated by IndiGo.
Passengers and crew were deboarded safely using manual aircraft stairs. No injuries were reported.
The Visual Docking Guidance System assists an aircraft during positioning at a parking stand. The pole involved in Friday’s incident houses the VDGS display unit and associated laser or camera sensors, according to details provided by officials.
Authorities have not attributed the incident to any particular cause.
Officials said the circumstances surrounding the contact would be examined under prescribed procedures. The cause will be determined after the enquiry is completed.
Airport operations were not disrupted by the incident. Arrivals and departures continued as scheduled.
Friday’s incident came a day after another IndiGo flight, operating from Doha to Bengaluru, was diverted to Muscat after a member of the operating crew required urgent medical attention.
Flight 6E 1302 landed safely in Muscat after the pilot-in-command reported feeling unwell. The pilot received medical attention after landing and was subsequently taken to a hospital. The airline said the crew member was in good health.
IndiGo arranged another aircraft and a fresh crew in Muscat for passengers travelling onwards to Bengaluru.
“The said crew member was attended to by the medical team upon landing and is feeling better now. An alternate aircraft along with a new set of crew has been arranged to continue the journey to Bengaluru,” the airline said. - The Statesman/ANN
