YANGON: A collision between a trailer and a tanker truck occurred on the Yangon-Mandalay Road near Shwebo Lay Turn, Ward No (9) of Taungoo Township, Bago Region at around 6am on Tuesday (Sept 1), and the tanker truck caught fire.
The incident occurred when a trailer driving from Mandalay to Yangon on the old Yangon-Mandalay Road in Taungoo Township collided with a tanker truck that was driving from Yangon to Mandalay in Taungoo Township.
The two vehicles collided with the rear of the trailer and the middle of the oil tanker during the bend. As a result of the collision, the trailer overturned on the road and the oil tanker caught fire.
The Township Fire Department, relevant authorities and locals rushed to extinguish the fire.
As of 7.30am, the oil tanker was still burning. Since it was a vehicle carrying oil, there was a risk of explosion, so the fire and rescue teams did not go too close to the vehicle and were fighting the fire from a distance, according to a charity organisation official who was helping to extinguish the fire.
The details of the injured and the cause of the accident are not yet known.
