Patriotic song “Kita Warga Malaysia”, created by Dr. Lee Tuck Wah, was officially launched at an event in Kuala Lumpur, bringing together community leaders, education representatives, creative industry professionals, artists, athletes, students, teachers, communities and Malaysians from diverse backgrounds.
Held at a well-known shopping mall in Bukit Jalil, the launch presented a creative project combining music, film, education, the arts and national unity, under the message: “Satu Hati, Satu Suara — Membawa Malaysia di Mata Dunia.” And at its heart is a simple message: We are all Malaysians.
“Kita Warga Malaysia” went through almost two years of songwriting, filming and production before being presented to the public. The project was strengthened by professional film-industry involvement through LOMO Pictures, with Aron Koh playing a key role in driving the project forward.
His production experience and industry network helped transform the song into a more structured and professional visual experience. Experienced Malaysian film director Ryon Lee Eng Keong also attended and gave his support.
Their involvement reflects the belief that film and music are more than entertainment — they can communicate positive values, build awareness and bring communities together.
The song incorporates the five principles of Rukun Negara as an important foundation: *Kepercayaan kepada Tuhan; * Kesetiaan kepada Raja dan Negara; *Keluhuran Perlembagaan; *Kedaulatan Undang-undang; * Kesopanan dan Kesusilaan (Belief in God, Loyalty to King and Country, Supremacy of the Constitution, Rule of Law, Courtesy and Morality)
These principles are carried through themes of patriotism, unity, social harmony and love for Malaysia in the new single.
At the launch of the event, the main guests, which included 1992 Thomas Cup heroes Datuk Rashid Sidek and Datuk Cheah Soon Kit, simultaneously opened the “Kita Warga Malaysia” umbrellas. The umbrellas symbolised the idea that although Malaysians may face different challenges — sunshine, rain and storms — we choose to stand under one shared umbrella, Malaysia, and move forward together.
The initiative has received support from: Tunku Noraidah Zakiah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (daughter of Malaysia’s first Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Rahman, and Royal Patron of “Kita Warga Malaysia”); Tunku Suleiman Tunku Abdul Rahman (Principal Advisor of “Kita Warga Malaysia”); Tan Sri Syed Yusof Tun Syed Nasir (President of Yayasan Dato Malaysia); Tan Sri Dr Mohd Yussof Latiff (President of PEMENANG).
The event was then officiated by Datuk Azmir Saifuddin bin Mutalib, Chief Executive Officer of FINAS.
He said in his speech: "This is an amazing effort. To see all the communities in this country coming together and playing a hand in this production, I'm immensely proud of this achievement and also hope the whole country comes together in such productions."
The presence of the Ministry of Education Malaysia added an important dimension to the initiative. Rosliza Rosli, Director of the Education Policy Planning and Research Division, Ministry of Education Malaysia, also attended, representing the Director-General of Education Malaysia, Datuk Dr. Mohd Azam Ahmad. Representatives from the Johor and Terengganu State Education Departments also attended.
The organisers hope the work may serve as a creative medium supporting activities related to Rukun Negara, patriotism, values education, unity and student participation, subject to the consideration and guidelines of the relevant education authorities. “Kita Warga Malaysia” brings together artists, singers, musicians, dancers, teachers, students, KRT communities and volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
Participants from Sarawak and Borneo were also brought into the project through Persatuan Kesenian Etnik Sarawak, led by Rosalind Kamis. Alfred Kong and Cindy Wong, through remadesia, also supported the initiative through community welfare, ESG and sustainability values.
Besides the former badminton stars Rashid and Cheah, also present were Lenny Ooi, Director of “Sentuhan Wira”, and his production team.
Footage capturing the gathering of guests, artists, media, teachers, students and supporters at the launch will also become part of special “Kita Warga Malaysia” content. The content will be released through the “Kita Warga Malaysia” YouTube Channel on 30 August 2026 at 8:31pm, in conjunction with the National Month celebrations.
Following the launch, the organisers plan to invite schools nationwide to create their own “Kita Warga Malaysia” Creative Videos. Each school can express its own culture, creativity and love for Malaysia. The initiative is not simply about competition, but about giving young Malaysians an opportunity to create, collaborate and experience the spirit of being Malaysian.
The organisers acknowledge that the first version was created with the resources, capabilities and networks available at this stage. More artists, musicians, creative professionals, media organisations, schools, teachers, students and Malaysians were invited to share their ideas and contribute towards “Kita Warga Malaysia — Version Two”, making it bigger, better and more representative of Malaysia.
