Two pilots killed in training flight crash in north India


HYDERABAD, (India): (Bernama) Two pilots were killed in a training flight crash in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday (Aug 27).

The Tecnam P2006T twin-engine aircraft crashed into a field near the Ganga river, five nautical miles (9.2 kilometres) from Kanpur city and about 100 kilometres from the state capital Lucknow.

"A team of three officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is proceeding to the site for necessary regulatory oversight and coordination," India's Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a statement.

"The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has been informed and will undertake a detailed investigation into the accident in accordance with the applicable rules.

"The circumstances and cause of the accident will be determined through the investigation," it added.

The plane had taken off from Garg Aviation company's Kanpur training centre at 11.30am and the crash was reported about 20 minutes later, a police officer told the media.

The deceased were identified as flight instructor Sachin Bhatia from Gujarat and trainee Abhishek Pujari of Karnataka state. - Bernama
