Myanmar to launch 5G services in early 2027

YANGON: Myanmar plans to officially roll out 5G telecommunication services during the fourth quarter of the 2026–2027 fiscal year.

At a coordination meeting on August 18, Deputy Minister for Digital Development and Communications U Thet Win Aung announced the allocation of the 2600 MHz spectrum band for the rollout. Mobile operators have been tasked with constructing approximately 1,000 base stations within a year to prepare for commercial operations.

A dedicated 5G Task Force has been formed to oversee implementation and maintain service quality following initial network trials. Ministry officials, telecom operators, and vendors also discussed equipment import logistics, infrastructure readiness, and rollout timelines to ensure a coordinated nationwide launch. - Eleven News/ANN
