KUALA LUMPUR: microLEAP, a leading Malaysian peer-to-peer (P2P) financing platform operating as a Recognised Market Operator under the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Provident Banc to explore initiatives aimed at strengthening responsible financing practices, broadening access to alternative financing and supporting the long-term financial resilience of Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The MOU signing took place during an industry event hosted by Provident in collaboration with Masryef Academy, titled "Cost of Living, Digital Debt & Financial Stress: The Role of Islamic Financing in Building Financial Stability".
The event brought together key leaders from Malaysia's financial services ecosystem to discuss evolving borrowing behaviours, responsible financing practices and digital financial innovation.
Under the MOU, microLEAP and Provident will explore areas of collaboration encompassing financial education, knowledge-sharing, responsible financing initiatives and potential avenues to improve access to alternative financing solutions for Malaysian SMEs. The collaboration will also explore opportunities across both Shariah-compliant and conventional P2P financing structures.
As Malaysian businesses continue to navigate changing economic conditions and funding challenges, alternative financing platforms are playing an increasingly important role in broadening access to capital beyond traditional financing and bridging the funding gap.
Through this collaboration, microLEAP and Provident aim to explore multi-faceted initiatives that support more informed financial decision-making and improve access to responsible financing options for local businesses.
Speaking on the partnership, Tunku Danny Nasaifuddin Mudzaffar, Founder & Chief Executive Officer of microLEAP, emphasised the importance of stronger collaboration across Malaysia's financial ecosystem:
"Access to transparent, ethical and accessible financing remains a vital priority for growing Malaysian businesses navigating today’s economic realities. Through this partnership with Provident, we aim to explore new ways to strengthen financial inclusion and expand access to alternative financing solutions, while upholding responsible financing practices that support long-term business sustainability and financial health.”
The MOU signing formed part of the wider industry dialogue on financial stability and responsible borrowing. The event also featured discussions on sustainable debt management, Islamic fintech innovation and approaches to managing financial stress among business owners.
The collaboration reflects both organisations' shared commitment in supporting a more inclusive and responsible financing ecosystem, while exploring new ways to connect Malaysian businesses with the financing solutions and resources they need to grow sustainably.
