BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) has intensified nationwide enforcement efforts under Operasi Kakas 2026, resulting in the detention of six foreign nationals for suspected immigration offences.
During Operasi Kakas 79/2026, enforcement officers from the Kuala Belait Enforcement Unit inspected 16 foreign nationals in the Seria area. Six individuals were detained and taken to the Enforcement Division for further investigation.
Preliminary investigations found that five of the detainees are suspected of breaching Regulation 15(2) of the Immigration Regulations, Chapter 17, by working for employers other than those stated in their employment permits.
The remaining individual is suspected of committing an offence under Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17, for overstaying after the expiry of an immigration pass.
In a separate case, the department reported that 45-year-old Malaysian national Norhani Jamudin was sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment and fined BND3,500 after being convicted of three immigration offences.
The offences included re-entering Brunei Darussalam after being lawfully deported under Section 36 of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17; entering the country through a location other than a gazetted control post under Section 5(1); and entering and remaining in the country without a valid immigration pass under Section 6(1)(c).
Norhani failed to pay the fine and was ordered to serve an additional three months’ imprisonment, bringing her total sentence to 27 months, effective June 25. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
