SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur (Philippines): Six persons were rescued after a landslide triggered by heavy rains and thunderstorms blocked a road in Salcedo town, local disaster officials reported Sunday (Aug 2).
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Salcedo said it received a report that several individuals were stranded along the Balidbid–Bulala-Leguey Road after a landslide rendered the route impassable.
According to the MDRRMO, the group encountered intense rainfall and thunderstorms while traveling through the area.
The resulting landslide blocked the roadway, preventing them from continuing their journey home.
Responding personnel from the MDRRMO, together with members of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Salcedo Fire Station and the Philippine National Police (PNP) Salcedo Police Station, immediately conducted a rescue operation.
The young stranded individuals from the municipalities of Sta. Cruz and Tagudin in Ilocos Sur were safely rescued and were found to be in good condition, with no injuries reported.
They were brought to the MDRRM Office, where they were provided temporary shelter, food, drinking water, and other necessary assistance while authorities monitored weather conditions.
Before their return home, the MDRRMO coordinated with the disaster management offices of Sta. Cruz and Tagudin regarding the situation and transport arrangements.
Once conditions were deemed safe for travel, MDRRMO personnel personally transported the six youths to their respective residences, ensuring their safe arrival. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
