NAY PYI TAW: Applications for new electricity meters for residential, commercial and industrial use will be available online through the website of the Ministry of Electric Power and Energy (MOEE) starting Aug 15, according to an announcement issued by the ministry on July 30.
The online application system is intended to enable people who do not yet have electricity meters to obtain new meters more quickly and conveniently. The ministry said the system would also help eliminate the involvement of intermediaries and staff members, while reducing the time and expenses associated with applications.
Starting Aug 15, 2026, applicants will be able to submit their requests directly to the ministry’s headquarters through its website for the installation of new electricity meters for residential, commercial and industrial purposes.
The ministry said electricity infrastructure funded and developed by the government, from power generation through distribution to consumers, must be continuously be maintained, upgraded and modernised in line with technological developments to ensure reliable, high-quality electricity services.
Applicants will therefore only be required to pay the officially prescribed fees necessary for such maintenance and upgrading.
The ministry further stated that applicants would not be required to make any additional payments. All official fees must be paid online only to the designated account specified by the ministry.
People wishing to have an electricity meter installed can submit applications through the Ministry of Electric Power and Energy website.
The ministry said applications that meet its prescribed requirements will be processed and meters installed as soon as possible. - Eleven News/ANN
