BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Brunei-Muara District Office (JDBM) issued a BND2,000 compound offer to a company for abandoning a boat in a public area, an offence under the Miscellaneous Act (Chapter 30).
The compound was issued by the Licensing and Enforcement Division to a company on July 23, 2026, under Section 12(1)(f) of the Act, and the company has been directed to settle the compound within seven days, failing which the case may be referred to the courts for further legal action.
Upon conviction under the Miscellaneous Act (Chapter 30), a company may be liable to a fine of up to BND30,000, imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both.
The public is reminded that abandoning vehicles, boats or any other items on any part of a public road or public open space without lawful permission constitutes an offence under the Act, and enforcement action may be taken under Section 12(1)(f), which provides for compound fines of BND1,000 for individuals and BND2,000 for companies.
JDBM urged the public and businesses to dispose of unwanted property responsibly and comply with existing regulations to help maintain public safety, cleanliness and the orderly use of public spaces. – Lyna Mohamad
