ILOILO CITY: The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has launched an investigation into a viral video allegedly showing a couple engaging in an obscene act at the Esplanade in Barangay Progreso, Lapuz district.
ICPO director Col. Wilbert B. Parilla ordered the investigation after the video, reportedly showing a man and a woman in school uniforms, gained widespread attention on social media.
Initial reports indicated that the individuals were allegedly performing an indecent act in full view of the public at the recreational area.
Parilla directed police units to verify the authenticity of the video and identify those involved.
The investigation will also determine whether any laws or local ordinances were violated. Police said they would coordinate with relevant government agencies, particularly given the possibility that minors may be involved.
Iloilo City’s Greening and Beautification Program also conducted a cleanup at Esplanade 8 in Lapuz following the incident. Officials said, however, that maintenance personnel have yet to be assigned to the newly opened area.
The ICPO urged the public to stop sharing, reposting or circulating the video, warning that doing so could further violate the privacy and dignity of those involved, particularly if they are underage.
Police also reminded parents and guardians of their responsibility to supervise children, promote responsible social media use and reinforce values of respect and discipline.
“Let us allow the proper authorities to address this matter in accordance with the law while respecting the rights and dignity of all concerned,” Parilla said.
The ICPO also stressed that public spaces such as the Esplanade are intended for wholesome recreational activities, exercise and community engagement.
It urged the public to maintain proper conduct and uphold public decency to help ensure a safe and orderly environment for everyone.- Inquirer/ANN
