Truck rams car from behind on expressway, kills five near Maharashtra’s Wardha district

NEW DELHI: Five people were killed and one person was seriously injured after an Eicher truck rammed into a car from behind on the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra’s Wardha district on Monday (July 20), police said.

The accident took place near the Virul Interchange under the jurisdiction of the Pulgaon Police Station.

According to Wardha Police, four occupants of the car, including its driver, died on the spot. The driver of the Eicher truck also succumbed to his injuries after the collision.

The truck’s cleaner sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.

Highway Police and Pulgaon Police reached the spot and launched rescue operations. Traffic on the expressway was regulated while authorities worked to clear the accident site.

The bodies of the deceased were shifted to Pulgaon Rural Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police are yet to share further details about the victims or the circumstances leading to the crash. - The Statesman/ANN
