Passengers entering Myanmar limited to two mobile phones each

YANGON: The CEIR and EIR System Project Steering Committee has announced that travellers entering Myanmar through land border checkpoints, seaports, and international airports may bring no more than two mobile phones per person, including the phone currently in use.

Any mobile phone that has not yet been registered in the country's Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system must be declared at the airport customs counter using a Passenger Declaration Form (PD Form).

According to the committee, mobile phones entering Myanmar through border crossings, seaports, and international airports are required to be registered in the CEIR system.

For passengers arriving at Yangon, Naypyidaw, and Mandalay international airports, only up to two mobile phones per person, including the traveller's personal device, are eligible for CEIR registration.

Passengers carrying unregistered mobile phones must submit a Passenger Declaration Form (PD Form) at the airport customs counter. The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number of each phone must be included on the declaration form.

To complete CEIR registration, applicants must submit the required documents to the CEIR One-Stop Service (OSS) team. These include a CEIR registration application, a copy of the passport's photo page and the page showing the immigration arrival stamp, the original and a copy of the boarding pass and airline ticket, and the original Passenger Declaration Form (PD Form).

Applications must be submitted within 30 days from the date the PD Form is filed, and the applicable taxes must be paid during that period. Applications submitted after the 30-day deadline will be subject to additional penalties on top of the required taxes.

The committee also stated that each traveler is permitted to register a maximum of two mobile phones within one year from the date of the first PD Form declaration. - Eleven Media/ANN
