Midwife in Japan arrested over patient’s death, allegedly injected stool into IV

TOKYO: A midwife was arrested on Wednesday (July 15) on suspicion of killing a hospitalised man by inserting faeces into his IV tube in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, in January, police said.

Miyuki Furukawa, 51, a Kashiwa resident, is suspected of inserting faeces into the extension tube of an IV drip being administered to the man at Kashiwa Tanaka Hospital at around 3.55am on Jan 30, resulting in his death at around 10.30pm on Jan 31. The man, 75, lived in Toride, Ibaraki Prefecture.

Furukawa was charged with murder. The Chiba prefectural police are investigating her motive and other details. - The Yomiuri Shimbun
