HANOI (Vietnam News/VnExpress): Vietnam's Prime Minister on July 11 called for urgent measures to address the aftermath of a speedboat capsizing off Phu Quoc Island that killed 15 Indian tourists.
In an official dispatch, he expressed condolences to the victims' families and asked ministries, agencies and local authorities to mobilize all available medical resources and medicine to treat the injured and to minimize loss of life and property.
An Giang Province, home to the island, was assigned to lead relevant agencies and forces in assessing the cause of the accident and rectifying any shortcomings or problems.
The Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Public Security to urgently investigate and clarify the cause of the accident and to take strict action against any organizations or individuals found in violation of the law.
The Ministry of Construction was tasked with reviewing and inspecting safety measures for inland waterway and maritime traffic in the area where the accident occurred, as well as in areas with similar conditions.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was directed to work closely with the Indian Embassy in Vietnam on consular affairs, citizen protection and other matters related to the victims.

The directive followed the capsizing of a speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists along with four crew members and guides near Hon May Rut Ngoai, in the Phu Quoc Special Zone. The accident killed 15 Indian tourists - 13 men and two women - while 21 people were rescued.
The same afternoon, the Indian Embassy released a list of the 32 citizens who had been on the boat, comprising 30 men and two women. It also set up two contact points, in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, to assist affected nationals. -- Vietnam News/VnExpress-Asia News Network
