Blaze at shoe factory in eastern China kills 28 - reports

BEIJING: (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) At least 28 people died in a blaze that engulfed a shoe factory in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian on Thursday (July 9), reported Sputnik/RIA Novostic citing a China Central Television report.

The fire broke out at around 12pm local time (04:00 GMT) at the Huiteng shoe factory in the city of Jinjiang. Over 180 firefighters and 35 fire engines were sent to the scene.

Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered a thorough investigation into the deadly blaze and demanded that those responsible be held accountable. - Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti
