Welcome to the Akemi innovation - launch of Sleep Sync AI Mattress, country's first AI-powered mattress

Akemi continues to strengthen its position as a leader in innovation within the home furnishing industry with the launch of the AKEMI Sleep Sync AI Mattress, Malaysia’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered mattress developed locally.

More than just a product launch, this initiative marks the beginning of a sleep revolution that redefines the sleeping experience, transforming it from static comfort into an AI-powered system capable of understanding, adapting and responding to individual needs in real time.

The launch event held in KLCC Exhibition Hall 5 on Thursday (July 9) brought together media representatives, guests, collaboration partners and influencers to witness the official introduction of AKEMI’s latest innovation.

The event was also graced by the company's leadership team, including Chief Commercial Officer Koay Ching Mun and General Manager Kohlson Ong. Also present were researchers from Universiti Malaya (UM), including Professor Dr Mohd Faizul Mohd Sabri, Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation (TDR Office), and Dr Chan Chow Khuen, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, who attended the event as part of a courtesy visit in conjunction with the launch.

AKEMI Sleep Sync is designed with a Smart AI Chip that detects body pressure points, movements, and breathing patterns in real time. This technology enables the mattress to automatically adjust its support level according to changes in sleeping positions throughout the night, helping to reduce pressure on the spine, improve sleep quality and support more effective body recovery.

Unlike conventional mattresses that provide static support, Sleep Sync integrates an AI system that not only monitors but also actively adjusts support based on the user’s body weight, sleeping position and movements.

It is also equipped with features including Auto Mode, Sleep Aid, Anti-Snore, Reading, Zero Gravity, Wake Up Alarm, Relax Legs and Head Up, as well as the Sleep Score feature that helps users evaluate their daily sleep quality.

Additional features include an under-bed sensor light, wireless charger and washable divan cover, providing a more modern and practical sleep experience.

According to Chief Commercial Officer Koay Ching Mun, the launch reflects the company’s commitment to introducing innovations that deliver added value to consumers’ lives.

“At Akemi, we believe quality sleep is the foundation of health and well-being. With AKEMI Sleep Sync, we are not merely introducing a mattress but a sleep solution that can understand and adapt to each individual’s needs in real time. We believe this innovation will transform the way people perceive sleep — as an important investment towards better health and quality of life,” she said.

"We developed the first AI mattress in response to the growing smart living trend, where sleep is evolving into a more data-driven and personalised experience. Through extensive research and development, the team integrated smart motion technology with comfort engineering to create a mattress that intelligently adapts to the body’s pressure points, weight, and sleeping posture for a perfectly balanced, personalised sleep experience every night."

Meanwhile, the company's General Manager, Kohlson Ong, said the development of Sleep Sync was driven by research focused on the needs of modern consumers who seek a smarter and more responsive sleep experience.

“Unlike conventional mattresses or most AI mattresses that only monitor sleep patterns, AKEMI Sleep Sync is capable of actively adjusting support based on the user’s movements and sleeping positions in real time. This creates a more stable, comfortable and personalised sleep experience,” he explained.

"Sleep Sync integrates intelligence into every layer of sleep, bringing intelligent comfort, smart sleep modes, and smart sleep functions. Its key features include Auto Adjustment, Sleep Aid, Anti-Snore, Reading, Wake Up Alarm, Under-Bed Lighting Sensor, Wireless Charging, and Sleep Report. "

The innovation has also received recognition through the Atap Design Award, winning the Platinum Award in the Best Mattress & Bedding Innovation category and an Honourable Mention in the Best AI Technology category, further strengthening the company's position as a local innovation leader with international standards. The public can now experience Sleep Sync at selected locations, including ED Shop Ipoh, AKEMI Home Sunway Pyramid, AKEMI Home Suria Sabah, AKEMI Home The Spring, AKEMI Sleep Studio Seapark Petaling Jaya and AKEMI Sleep Studio IOI City Mall. With the tagline “Personalised Sleep, Powered By AI”, AKEMI Sleep Sync opens a new chapter in the sleep industry by offering a more personalised, comfortable and technology-driven sleep experience.
