BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A nine-year-old girl lost her life, while a 72-year-old senior citizen sustained burns to both hands in a house fire in Seria, Belait District on Monday (July 6) night.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), a distress call was received regarding a house fire on the night of July 6, 2026.

The FRD deployed 10 firefighters from the Seria Fire Station, led by Deputy Station Officer Mohd Zulkifli Mohd Tahir, with assistance from personnel of the Kuala Belait Fire Station and Shell firefighters.

Upon arrival, the firefighters found a large blaze had completely engulfed a wooden house. The intense heat also caused the fire to spread to part of a nearby house.

The FRD confirmed that a nine-year-old girl was found dead in the fire and the body was discovered by firefighters on the ground floor of the house on Tuesday morning.

The fire also involved a 72-year-old elderly person, who sustained burns to the hands and was transported by ambulance to Suri Seri Begawan Hospital.

Firefighting operations were carried out using five hose jets, with water supply from nearby fire hydrants. The fire was brought under control within one hour.

The cause of the fire and the estimated value of the losses are still under investigation by the FRD.
