Tropical Storm Maysak hits Laos as govt warns of continued heavy rain and flooding

VIENTIANE (Xinhua): The weather bureau of Laos has warned that tropical storm Maysak is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds across the country, urging the public to remain alert and prepare for possible flooding and landslides.

A low-pressure system continues to move across northern to central Laos, combining with the southwest monsoon and tropical storm Maysak developing in the South China Sea.

These weather systems are expected to bring widespread light to moderate thunderstorms across Laos from July 5, with some areas likely to experience heavy rainfall and strong winds.

Authorities warn that the prolonged rainfall may lead to flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides in several regions, including Lao capital Vientiane, according to a report from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology under the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on Thursday.

Residents and local authorities are advised to stay alert, take necessary precautions, and prepare for possible severe weather conditions. The public is urged to stay informed and closely monitor weather updates. -- XInhua
