TOKYO: The US Embassy in Japan held a party to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States on Friday (July 3) night in Odaiba, Tokyo, where the Rainbow Bridge was lit up in red, white and blue — the colours of the US national flag.

Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi and Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike were among the attendees who joined US Ambassador to Japan George Glass at the party.

In addition to performances by a Hawaiian dance troupe and a rock band, a video message from US President Donald Trump expressing gratitude to allies around the world was played at the event.
