BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Brunei Darussalam Food Authority (BDFA) will assume full responsibility for food safety services in the Tutong and Temburong districts from the Ministry of Health, effective July 1, it said in a press release.
The transition marks the completion of the transfer of all food safety responsibilities from the Ministry of Health to the BDFA, in line with the authority’s efforts to strengthen and streamline food safety governance nationwide.
Under the new arrangement, the BDFA will oversee a range of food safety functions in the two districts, including food safety and hygiene inspections, food sampling, compliance monitoring, investigation of food safety complaints and incidents, and the provision of food safety advisory and consultation services.
The authority will also conduct training programmes for food handlers, implement public awareness and education initiatives on food safety, and work closely with relevant government agencies and food industry stakeholders to promote safe food practices.
The latest transition follows the establishment of the BDFA’s Kuala Belait Branch Office and the transfer of food safety responsibilities from the Belait Health Office to the authority on April 1 this year.
With the inclusion of Tutong and Temburong, the BDFA will now be fully responsible for food safety services across all four districts, reinforcing a more integrated and coordinated national food safety system aimed at ensuring safe and quality food for the public. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
