Cambodia and Malaysia strengthen media ties through an MoU on information development

BUTTERWORTH (Bernama): Malaysia and Cambodia further strengthened bilateral ties with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on information and media development cooperation, paving the way for closer collaboration in various areas of the media and communications sector.

The MoU was signed ad referendum by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and presented by Cambodian Information Ministry’s Under Secretary of State, Prak Thaveak Amida, on behalf of Information Minister Neth Pheaktra at the Light Hotel here, today.

The agreement establishes a platform for cooperation in news and information exchange, radio and television broadcasting, printing and publishing, human capital development, film and documentary production, media cybersecurity, information policy, and regulatory practices, as well as innovation in media and broadcasting.

Through the partnership, both countries aim to promote greater exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices while supporting the continued growth and transformation of their respective information and media sectors.

The cooperation also reflects the shared commitment of Malaysia and Cambodia to harness opportunities offered by an increasingly digital and interconnected communications environment.

The signing marked another milestone in the longstanding relations between the two countries and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation for the mutual benefit of their peoples and industries.

Amida is currently in Malaysia to represent Pheaktra at the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2026 grand finale held at the PICCA convention centre here, today.

The sixth edition of HAWANA, which brings together about 1,000 local and foreign media practitioners under the theme "Media Integrity Strengthens Credibility,” is scheduled to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at 3 pm.

Also expected to attend are Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, and top management from local media organisations.  -- BERNAMA
