YANGON: Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing and Chinese Premier Li Qiang held talks at around 4 p.m. local time on June 16 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including reopening border trade gates, strengthening the systematic management of border trade in accordance with the rule of law and jointly implementing measures to facilitate cross-border commerce.
They also exchanged views on increasing technical support for quarantine standards for Myanmar’s agricultural and MSME products, accelerating strategic cooperation in cross-border law enforcement and expanding collaboration to meet Myanmar’s growing energy needs through the development of a stable energy system and renewable energy technologies with Chinese assistance.
The discussions further covered China’s continued support for reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts following the devastating Mandalay earthquake, as well as accelerating implementation of the Myanmar-China Economic Corridor, which both sides described as an important project for the two countries.
The meeting was attended by several Myanmar Union ministers, chief ministers of Kachin and Shan states, senior military officers, deputy ministers, Myanmar Ambassador to China Zaw Win Myint, and other officials.
