PHNOM PENH: The Roxy Hotel & Casino in Bavet town, Svay Rieng province, has had its licence revoked after authorities determined that it had been involved in clandestine online scam operations.
The Commercial Gambling Management Commission of Cambodia (CGMC) revoked the licence issued to the parent company Radiant Pearl Investment Limited, through Decision No. 048 CGMC dated June 11.
The commission explained that the provincial and town authorities, together with the Secretariat of the National Committee for Combating Online Scams, inspected the casino premises on May21.
Authorities detained 25 Chinese nationals suspected of involvement in criminal activities and seized a range of evidence, including mobile phones, computers, vehicles and digital video recorder (DVR) equipment used for security camera data storage.
Investigators said that examinations of the electronic devices collected during the operation confirmed the casino’s involvement in online fraud activities.
The CGMC noted that in addition to revoking the licence, it has sent a request to the Cambodia Financial Intelligence Unit (CAFIU) seeking information on bank accounts belonging to the company’s owners and the individuals previously listed as licence holders.
The information will be provided to prosecutors at the Svay Rieng Provincial Court.
The commission issued a renewed warning to owners and operators of integrated resorts and all licensed commercial gambling establishments, urging them to conduct their businesses in accordance with existing laws and regulations and to avoid any involvement in online scam operations or other illegal activities. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
