Laos prioritises human trafficking elimination

VIENTIANE: The Lao National Committee on Anti-Human Trafficking has outlined priorities for the 2026-2030 plan, prioritising the elimination of human trafficking.

The committee convened a meeting in Lao capital Vientiane on Monday (June 8) to review the implementation of its anti-human trafficking efforts from 2021 to 2025 and outline priorities for the 2026-2030 plan, according to a report from the Lao Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Lao Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Keo Chanthavixay said Laos remains affected by human trafficking in various forms. In response, relevant authorities have implemented the national anti-trafficking plan nationwide, strengthening legal frameworks, regulations and operational guidelines.

Efforts have also focused on capacity building through training programmes, awareness campaigns and seminars for officials at both central and local levels, alongside expanded public outreach activities.

For the 2026-2030 strategy, authorities will intensify efforts to address the root causes of trafficking and enhance protection for vulnerable groups. - Xinhua
