PHNOM PENH: (Bernama) Malaysian Family Day brought families and communities together on Saturday (June 6), turning the occasion into a vibrant celebration of culture and friendship.

The Malaysian Embassy in Phnom Penh hosted the event themed "Lepak dan Gelak” (chill and laugh) to rekindle unity and bonding among fellow Malaysians working and living in the Kingdom.

Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia, Shaharuddin Onn, turned his  welcoming speech into a powerful clarion call to promote Malaysia and its uniqueness to the global community.

"Our Hari Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family Day) is not a mere social gathering of Malaysians in Cambodia, it reflects our sense of identity and belonging as Malaysians. Our Hari Keluarga showcases what Malaysia is and who Malaysians are.

"It is reflective of Malaysia, where people of different races, cultures, and religions live in the spirit of Muhibbah, unity and harmony as true Malaysians,” said Shaharuddin.

Braving the scorching heat beneath monsoon-season clouds, Malaysians turned out in patriotic spirit to support the event held at Coconut Park on Diamond Island, in Phnom Penh, cradled by the majestic Tonle Sap River.

In typical Malaysian hospitality, the family day catered to all guests.

Food stalls promoting Malaysian cuisine, karaoke, games, Zumba fitness dances, face painting and balloon twisting entertained adults and children.

The embassy in Phnom Penh once again delivered a memorable occasion, uplifting Malaysians, Cambodians, and international guests with warm Malaysian hospitality. - Bernama
