TOKYO: (Bernama-Kyodo) An oil tanker under major Japanese oil company Eneos Holdings Inc. arrived in Japan on Wednesday (June 3), the second vessel to do so after transiting the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran, Kyodo News reported.
The Eneos Endeavor, having passed the strait in mid-May, arrived at the company's Kiire Terminal in southwestern Japan's Kagoshima Prefecture carrying 2.15 million barrels of crude oil, roughly equivalent to one day's domestic demand in Japan. The oil originated in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
After the effective closure of the strait by Iran, the Japanese government asked Tehran to ensure free and safe passage through the strait for vessels of all countries.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the tanker did not pay any tolls to pass through the strait.
The vessel, measuring about 340 meters in length and owned by a subsidiary, initially left the UAE in late February, but became stalled in the Persian Gulf following the U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran, according to the global ship tracking service MarineTraffic.
Last week, a tanker operated by a unit of major refiner Idemitsu Kosan Co. became the first to arrive in Japan after transiting the strait since the start of the war, delivering around 2 million barrels of crude.
Seven Japan-related oil tankers remain stranded in the Persian Gulf, the Petroleum Association of Japan said. - Bernama-Kyodo
