Singapore sets up a cyber command to combat online crime in the country

SINGAPORE (Bernama): The Singapore Police Force (SPF) will establish a new unit dedicated to strengthening efforts to combat online crimes with the formation of SPF Cyber Command in July 2026, said Minister of State for Home Affairs Goh Pei Ming.

He said the unit will bring together existing cybercrime and anti-scam capabilities from across the SPF under a single command, while developing new capabilities to boost operational effectiveness.

The unit would serve as the frontline force in the SPF’s response to cyber threats and lead efforts to protect Singaporeans against cybercrime and scams, he added.

"Cyber Command will be a frontline unit and will start with about 200 officers across operations, investigations and intelligence capabilities.

"We plan to eventually double it to 400 officers as the command grows its capabilities and operates alongside other Police Commands," he said at the opening of Anti-Scam Conference 2026 on Monday.

According to Goh, a Cyber Operations Centre will also be established under the new unit to enhance its ability to analyse online criminal activity, identify infrastructure used by cybercriminals, and proactively disrupt such operations.

He said the centre will leverage technology to rapidly detect phishing campaigns at scale and trace them to their sources to dismantle entire syndicate operations.

He also emphasised that the Anti-Scam Centre, which will be embedded within the Cyber Command unit, will be expanded to interdict cryptocurrency-related crimes and leverage blockchain intelligence. -- Bernama
