The National Food Agency (Bapanas) in Indonesia has ensured the availability of soybean supplies for tofu and tempeh producers to maintain business continuity and product affordability.
“Our national soybean stock is sufficient to fulfill national needs especially for the production of tofu and tempeh,” the Principal Secretary of Bapanas Sarwo Edhy confirmed in a statement on Saturday.
He stated that soybean supplies from both imported and domestic sources are projected to remain at a safe level until end April.
The government is constantly monitoring the adequacy of supplies as more than 90% of national soybean needs come from tofu and tempeh producers.
“As of the end of April our soybean stock is still at 322,000 tonnes,” Edhy said.
His agency is in constant communication with the Association of Indonesian Tofu and Tempeh Producers Cooperatives (Gakoptindo) to maintain the stability of this food commodity.
According to the official, the projected supply is sufficient to support monthly demand which ranges from 220,000 to 230,000 tonnes.
“This calculation is based on the 2026 Soybean Food Balance Projection which is updated monthly,” he added.
He also urged importers to comply with the price ceiling set by the government to keep production costs manageable for small businesses.
The soybean reference sales price at the importer level is a maximum of 11,500 rupiah (RM2.65) or US$0.70 per kg.
At the consumer or producer level the price must not exceed 12,000 rupiah (RM2.76) or US$0.73 per kg.
Furthermore the government and the State Logistics Agency Bulog are preparing funding to strengthen its soybean reserve.
According to a 2025 decree, the minimum procurement for the reserve is set at 70,000 tonnes for the 2026 period.
The Head of the National Food Agency previously reminded importers to maintain price control or face strict sanctions.
Violators will be subject to penalties including the revocation of import permits to ensure national food security. — Bernama
