BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The officers and coaches of Brunei’s contingent heading to the 6th Asian Beach Games, Sanya, China 2026 were reminded to ensure the athletes’ welfare, safety and well-being are always prioritised throughout the games.

This is one of the key aspects given serious attention by the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council.

The reminder was echoed by Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council in a sabda (speech) Thursday (April 16).

His Royal Highness delivered the sabda at the National Flag Handover Ceremony to the Brunei Darussalam National Contingent for the 6th Asian Beach Games, Sanya, China 2026 at Bilik Simpur of Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Berakas.

His Royal Highness also called on all athletes and officers to always maintain good discipline by complying with and respecting all the regulations and guidelines established by the organiser, including avoiding all forms of prohibited substances, as well as complying with the Anti-Doping Act and regulations enforced by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

His Royal Highness hopes that the athletes will display a high level of disciplined competition, and uphold the trust placed in athletes to represent the nation with full responsibility and remain fully focussed during competition, as well as demonstrate high fighting spirit without fear to bring glory and honour to Brunei.

Brunei is sending an eight-member contingent, comprising three male athletes and one female athlete to compete in Beach Athletics and Beach Teqball.

His Royal Highness said, “Despite only four athletes representing the country this time, the participation of a female athlete is highly significant. Such matter reflects the continuous commitment of the country in promoting inclusive participation of women in sports. At the same time, this also demonstrates efforts to ensure gender balance in the development of national sports in line with the strategic plan of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council.” - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
