Myanmar establishes new National Defence and Security Council


YANGON: The President’s Office announced the formation of the National Defence and Security Council of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar through Announcement No. (2/2026) on April 10.

In accordance with Article 201 of the Constitution and Article 10 (a) of the Union Government Law, the council comprises President Min Aung Hlaing, Vice Presidents Nyo Saw and Nan Ni Ni Aye, Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw (upper house) Aung Lin Dway, Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw (lower house) Khin Yi, Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services General Ye Win Oo, Deputy Commander-in-Chief General Kyaw Swar Lin, Minister for Defence General Tun Aung, Minister for Foreign Affairs Tin Maung Swe, Minister for Home Affairs Lt. Gen. Nyunt Win Swe, and Minister for Border Affairs Lt. Gen. Phone Myat.

The announcement also states that, under Article 20 (b) of the Union Government Law, the Secretary of the Union Government will serve as Secretary of the National Defence and Security Council. - Eleven Media/ANN
