37 partners pledge US$25mil to support Asean disaster management programme

SOUTH-EAST ASIA (Bernama): A total of 37 partner countries and organisations have pledged about US$25 million (RM99.14 million) to support the Asean Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) Work Programme 2026-2030.

According to Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the support will cover five priority areas under the programme, namely risk assessment, monitoring and early warning; prevention and mitigation; preparedness and response; resilient recovery; and global leadership.

The commitment was announced during the 7th AADMER Partnership Conference, which brought together ASEAN member states and a wide range of partners to strengthen regional collaboration in disaster management.

"In the spirit of collective action and solidarity,  ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management (ACDM) together with partners and stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to work together to realise ASEAN as a disaster-resilient region,” it said in a statement on Friday.

Hosted by BNPB as Chair of the ACDM, the conference was held in Jakarta on April 2 with support from the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management.

More than 150 participants attended the conference, representing ASEAN member states, ASEAN entities, dialogue and development partners, United Nations agencies, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, international organisations, financial institutions, the private sector, think tanks and academia.

BNPB said the AADMER Work Programme 2026-2030 provides a comprehensive framework to enhance cooperation, coordination, technical assistance and resource mobilisation across all phases of disaster management.

During the conference, BNPB said Indonesia shared its experience in disaster management, including efforts to accelerate rehabilitation and reconstruction, as well as strengthening community-based early warning systems.

The conference also underscored the importance of sustainable financing, technological innovation and community participation, with participants agreeing that close collaboration is key to strengthening ASEAN’s resilience.
