Laos issues extreme heat alert amid rising temperatures

VIENTIANE: Lao authorities have issued an extreme heat warning, forecasting temperatures of up to 42 degrees Celsius across Laos until April 10.

The alert, issued by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology on Monday (April 6), advises residents to take precautions as a mass of hot air continues to cover all regions, combined with prevailing westerly winds.

Peak temperatures are likely to occur in the afternoons over several consecutive days.

Forecasters also warned of possible isolated thunderstorms, lightning and hail in some areas.

Authorities highlighted increased risks associated with the extreme heat, including fire hazards and heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke, particularly among children and older adults. - Xinhua
