YANGON: Myanmar celebrated its 81st anniversary of Armed Forces Day with a military parade in the capital Naypyidaw on Friday (March 27) in commemoration of the start of its anti-fascist movement during World War II.

Speaking at the military parade event, chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission and Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said the anniversary is a solemn and proud occasion that resonates with the enduring legacy of the Armed Forces, forged in the crucible of the nation's struggle for independence.

He also said that the Tatmadaw (Myanmar armed forces) has faithfully discharged its sacred duties, unfailingly upholding the welfare of the nation and its people above all considerations throughout successive epochs.

The Tatmadaw shall remain steadfast, a modern and patriotic institution that ensures the wellbeing of the nation and its people, he added.

During the event, the armed forces' mechanized units and foot soldiers marched on the parade ground as military aircraft and helicopters flew above.
