'This is one sweet heist': 15 tonnes of gummies stolen from a lorry parked neat motorway

HAMBURG (Bernama-dpa): A container loaded with some 15 metric tonnes of fruit jellies has been stolen from a lorry parked near a German motorway, German Press Agency (dpa) reported, citing police on Wednesday.

The driver left the vehicle unattended for the day after parking it at a motorway service station near the northern town of Neustadt-Glewe on Tuesday morning at around 7.45 am (0645 GMT), police said in a statement.

When the 41-year-old man returned at around 8.45 pm, the container was gone - and with it €250,000 (US$288,400) worth of its delicious cargo of gummies.

It was initially unclear how the perpetrators were able to lift the container off the lorry unnoticed in plain daylight.

Police have launched an investigation and are searching for the gummies. - Bernama-dpa
