Traffic police, HEINEKEN Laos partner to encourage safe driving

VIENTIANE: HEINEKEN Laos and the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security have entered into an agreement aimed at encouraging responsible drinking and strengthening road safety awareness.

The partnership brings together the private sector, police, education groups and communities to address rising concerns about drink-driving and road accidents, especially among young people.

The agreement sets out a joint plan to promote responsible alcohol consumption and safer driving behaviour. The programme focusses on education and safety awareness in busy districts of Vientiane, where traffic risks are increasing.

Under the partnership, HEINEKEN Laos and the Traffic Police Department will work with universities, youth networks and district partners to deliver lessons on responsible drinking and road safety.

Activities will include safety awareness-raising sessions, community workshops, and campaigns designed to help young people understand the dangers of drink-driving. The programme will also encourage safer choices and stronger community responsibility.

To reach young audiences, the initiative will use digital storytelling, social media campaigns and messages created with Lao influencers. These platforms will help spread road safety messages in a simple and engaging way.

A representative from the Traffic Police Department said partnerships like this can play an important role in improving public safety.

“Education and awareness are key to preventing accidents and protecting lives,” he said.

He added that the programme will support police efforts by giving communities better knowledge and understanding of road safety risks and responsible drinking practices.

The agreement will run for an initial period of 18 months. Activities will take place in selected districts of Vientiane, with close cooperation between HEINEKEN Laos, the Traffic Police Department and district partners.

The initiative reflects a shared commitment to creating safer and healthier communities in Laos.

Operating in Laos since 2006, HEINEKEN Laos is one of the country’s leading brewers. The company produces popular brands including Heineken and Namkhong.

Beyond brewing, the company also supports community initiatives linked to road safety, environmental protection and responsible consumption.

Through these partnerships, HEINEKEN Laos aims to promote moderation, reduce harmful drinking and help make roads safer for everyone. - Vientiane Times/ANN
