YANGON: Two 10-year-old students were injured by shrapnel after an artillery shell fired by a joint Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Karenni People's Defence Force (KPDF) landed and exploded inside the compound of Basic Education High School in Hpakant in Kachin state.

The incident occurred on the morning of February 2, when KIA and KPDF groups reportedly launched artillery attacks toward Hpakant town from a distance of about 3,000 metres to the south-west of the town.
