Laos' inflation declines to 5.1% in January


VIENTIANE: Inflation in Laos dropped to 5.1 per cent in January, down from 5.6 per cent in December 2025, according to the latest report from the Lao Statistic Bureau.

According to a report released by the bureau on Wednesday (Jan 27), the highest price rise in January was recorded in the goods and services category, which stood at 32.1 per cent.

Other categories driving inflation included the housing, water, electricity and gas category at 24.2 per cent, the medical care and medicines category at 13.6 per cent, and the education category at 11.5 per cent.

The Lao central bank, the Bank of the Lao PDR (BOL), has set inflation control as one of its key priorities for 2026. - Xinhua
