Myanmar's former NLD Health Minister Dr Myint Htwe passes away in Thailand at 78


YANGON: Dr. Myint Htwe (pic), who served as Union Minister for Health and Sports during the National League for Democracy government, passed away in Thailand on January 26, it has been learned.

Regarding Dr. Myint Htwe’s death, his younger brother Min Han Htwe wrote on his social media page: “We would like to inform relatives and friends that our eldest brother, Dr. Myint Htwe, passed away at Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, at 5:43 p.m. local time on January 26, 2026.”

Dr. Myint Htwe served as Union Minister for Health and Sports from 2016 until 2021, prior to the country’s political change, during the tenure of the NLD government.

During the period of political transition in the country, Dr. Myint Htwe had announced via his social media account that he would step down from his position as Union Minister for Health and Sports.

At the time of his death, Dr. Myint Htwe was 78 years old. A person close to him told the BBC that he passed away suddenly while undergoing treatment for lung cancer. - Eleven Media/ANN
