Myanmar Foreign Ministry summons Timor-Leste's chargé d'affaires, issues stern warning


YANGON: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar has summoned the Charge d’Affaires of the Timor-Leste Embassy and issued a strong warning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

The meeting was held at 3 pm on January 16 by Permanent Secretary Hau Khan Sum of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the Permanent Secretary conveyed Myanmar's strong opposition to the Timor-Leste government's interference in Myanmar's internal affairs and engagement with opposition groups, in violation of its commitment to abide by the Asean Charter and Asean's fundamental principles, and presented a letter of formal notice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

After reports emerged that the President of Timor-Leste and the Chin Human Rights Organisation met on January 14, the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the charge d'affaires of the embassy and expressed strong opposition. - Eleven Media/ANN
