Air India A350 engine damaged after ingesting baggage container

NEW DELHI: (Bernama) An Air India A350 aircraft suffered engine damage at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday (Jan 15) after ingesting a baggage container while taxiing.

The aircraft had returned to Delhi after its New York-bound flight was discontinued due to the closure of Iranian airspace.

"Air India confirms that Flight AI101, operating from Delhi to New York (JFK), was forced to return to Delhi shortly after takeoff due to the unexpected closure of Iranian airspace, which impacted its planned route.

"Upon landing in Delhi, the aircraft encountered a foreign object while taxiing in dense fog, resulting in damage to the right engine," an airline spokesperson told the Indian media.

There were no reports of any injury to those on board during the incident.

The wide-body aircraft was grounded, and an investigation was launched. - Bernama
