Chinese embassy donates funds to four Myanmar sports federations

YANGON: The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar on Friday (Dec 5) donated funds to four Myanmar sports federations in Yangon as part of China-Myanmar friendly sports exchanges.

The event was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ma Jia, Myanmar's Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Jeng Phang Naw Taung, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, and more than 400 representatives and athletes from Myanmar's wushu, dragon boat, football and sepak takraw federations.

Ma said the donation aimed to support Myanmar athletes as they strive to compete on higher-level platforms.

She noted that sports exchanges continue to strengthen bilateral friendship, adding that China is willing to work with Myanmar to promote the spirit of sports, encourage mutual learning between civilisations, and build more bridges of understanding.

Jeng Phang Naw Taung thanked China for its long-term assistance to Myanmar's sports development, saying Myanmar is ready to further enhance sports cooperation with China to help promote bilateral friendship.

The ceremony also featured demonstrations by Myanmar sepak takraw and martial arts athletes. - Xinhua
