JAKARTA: Indonesia is seeking stronger cooperation with China to accelerate the development of its artificial intelligence (AI) industry, a senior minister said during the China-Indonesia Industrial Collaboration Summit here on Thursday (Dec 4).

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said Indonesia currently has at least 25 AI startups.

He stressed the need for Indonesia to move quickly in building its AI ecosystem to remain competitive in the region.

Airlangga expressed hope that China's AI companies would support Indonesia's digital-economy startups, particularly in the fields of education, healthcare, smart agriculture, and other strategic sectors.

Such collaboration, he said, would also help strengthen small and medium enterprises and build their resilience for future growth.

He added that Indonesia plans to launch top-tier AI programs in 10 cities to help young people adopt and benefit from emerging technologies.

A strong partnership between Indonesian and Chinese businesses, Airlangga said, remains crucial for enhancing industrial capacity, strengthening economic stability, and creating sustainable value for both countries. - Xinhua
