Laos set to hold parliamentary elections in February 2026

VIENTIANE: Laos will hold elections for the Lao National Assembly's 10th legislature and the fifth Provincial People's Assemblies on Feb. 22, 2026, following a presidential decree officially setting the date as election day.

The announcement was made on Wednesday (Dec 3) by Vice President of the Lao National Assembly Chaleun Yiapaoher during a media briefing. He noted that the upcoming elections carry significant political importance for the Lao people, recognised as the holders of state power.

The preparations are underway, with the period from now until Jan. 7 in 2026. Authorities will distribute election materials and step up public awareness efforts.

Chaleun also encouraged citizens to be fully prepared, both mentally and physically, to take part in the electoral process and help ensure smooth, orderly elections that meet national objectives. - Xinhua
