BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Seven foreign women and a foreign man believed to be involved in prostitution activities were detained after police raided a budget hotel in Pengkalan Gadong on Sunday (Nov 30).

The operation, conducted at around 4.14pm, was led by ASP Abdul Hakim Ansyari Abdul Rahman from the Anti-Vice and Gambling Suppression Unit (USPPPM) under the Royal Brunei Police Force’s Criminal Investigation Department.

Police said the raid was launched following tip-offs from the public about suspected prostitution activities taking place at the premises. The man arrested is believed to have acted as a pimp.

All suspects were brought to the USPPPM office along with seized evidence for further investigation. Under Section 294A of the Penal Code, first-time offenders face a fine of between BND500 (US$386) and BND5,000, or imprisonment of up to one year.
